Achieve bold, expressive painting on your miniatures in a minimum amount of time! Sketch style is based on a centuries-old, simple and efficient method of fine art painting called “grisaille.” This style is a great way to visualize lighting, object-source lighting, and non-metallic metals. Join Matt DiPietro as he paints a model from start to finish in an hour with this striking style! Then pick a practice model and try it yourself with plenty of support from Matt to help you paint bravely.
Are you frustrated with starting to learn Non-Metallic Metal? Then this is the class for you. We are going to cover the foundational steps of how to paint non-metallic metal. Due to time constraints, the style of NMM covered is simple and stylized, not display-level or hyper-realistic. This effect is a great introduction into the foundations of NMM painting, including high contrast, highlight and shadow placement, and how light reflects off metallic geometric shapes.
Required skills: This is an intermediate-level effect, and students should be comfortable creating blends with techniques such as layering and glazing. A miniature will be provided as well as a detailed handout covering the fundamentals of non-metallic metals. The class will have brushes and paints available, but you are encouraged to bring a quality size 1 or 2 brush.

Clothing and items made of cloth exposed to the weather and combat break down over time and showing that wear is easier than you might think. Elbows and knees start to wear thin, tears and scratches start to fray, and stains and dirt get ground into the weave of the cloth. We’ll be using layering, glazing, stippling, and washes to turn our miniature’s perfectly clean clothing into worn and filthy testaments to their ability to survive.
Required Skills: This class is appropriate for painters with some experience. Familiarity with painting in layers, stippling, and glazing will be helpful. All students will receive a miniature and a printed handout to take home as reference material. Paints and basic brushes will be available for students to use in class. It is recommended that students bring their a size 1 or 2 brush.

Everyone loves object source lighting (OSL). Making it look right is a different thing altogether. In this class we’ll discuss when and how much depends on the environment the model sits in. After which we’ll take those ideas and get busy applying them to a miniature. Models and paint for the class will be provided. Class length :1.5 – 2 hours.
